Why Apply
For A Debt Consolidation Service?
In enquiring about
a debt consolidation service you're setting yourself on the track to
well being thereby effectively ensuring a new life for yourself. Choices
made now will start this process.
Individual Voluntary
Arrangements (IVAs) are usually configured to run over the course of
a 60 month term, though this can be adjusted to fit with personal requirements.
In Scotland, where they are referred to as Trust deeds or Protected
Trust Deeds, the span is typically 3 years but may be over four or five
years. In both the Individual Voluntary Arrangement and the Protected
Trust Deed the debtor client is kept safe from predatory creditors by
the terms of the agreement and their debts are totally and absolutely
discharged at the close of the period (however long that may be set
to run).
The IVA or debt
management plan will be drafted by an insolvency practitioner (or I.P.)
who will usually be qualified and have a good working knowledge of a
debt consolidation service. All of the debt and all the creditors will
be taken into account. Income and expenditure will also be looked at
and a monthly expenses list will be compiled with the agreement of the
client and the creditors. This will allow for the important household
expenses to be paid first before any creditors. The total capital sum
will be reduced in this way by 60 per cent or more, and the excess income
of the client is then set aside every month to reduce any remaining
debt in a very controlled and painless way and on a considerably reduced
basis.
Not everyone is
eligible for an Individual Voluntary Arrangement; there are some restraints
on those who may apply. Generally applicants need to have a steady income
providing a sum over and above regular household expenditure to fund
the monthly payments, though this need not be a huge amount. People
who do not qualify for an IVA will probably be eligible for a comparable
debt relief plan, so it's always worthwhile applying just to see.
